History
History:
The area in which the bowls club stands was given to the village by local benefactors, to hold under trust, and which is still run by them to the present day.
The first green laid in 1933 was for three rinks, by hand, and using only wheelbarrows. One member Derek Ledger's father Harry was a founder of the club, and took a keen interest in it right up to his passing.
Derek can remember when he was a lad, helping to extend the
green in 1947 up to six rinks, to where it is at the present time.
The old club house that was attached to the theatre's rear wall
was demolished, and the new club built in 1988 in its present
location.
In 2001 the green that was not exactly square but rather an obtuse angle was lengthened, and made square with new ditches to bring it up to county standards.
We play outdoor bowls from April to September with both beginners and experienced players, in Friendly, County, Aldershot and district, and Surrey County leagues.
In the winter we have short mat bowling and various social events such as Quiz nights, Table Tennis, Cards and other game nights.
